So when you see a recipe for salad, you might not get very excited. Which is kind of understandable. Because even though salad really is delicious and (usually) good for you, it doesn’t always have that immediateoooooh pull that other dishes do.
But if you really want to do something over-the-top decadent for a special occasion like a birthday, holiday, or even a girls’ night where you get to eat whatever you want try the Snickers Salad made by Instructables user, and very adventurous food experimenter,Penelopy Bulnick.
It takes pretty basic ingredients you can pick up at any grocery store if you don’t already have them, and you can always tweak the ingredients and proportions to your liking.
Also: we’re not kidding when we say this dish isdecadent. It’s pretty serious. Yes, it has apple in it, but this dessert salad is on the level of those skyscraper milkshakes that hit the scene about a year ago.
That being said, there’s always room for a little indulgence in life, so maybe make this your next treat-yourself dessert. Plus it goes great with ice cream.
Penelopy Bulnick, Instructables user, says this dish was inspired by her Midwestern heritage, where a “salad” wasn’t just limited to greens and vegetables.
- 3.4 oz box of instant vanilla pudding
- 1/2 cup milk
- 8o z container Cool Whip
- 2or 3 Granny Smith apples
She also recommends a squeeze of lemon juice if you need to keep the apples frombrowning.
The fist step was to slice everything up into bite-sized chunks.
Both the apples and the Snickers bars were diced so that they were about equal sizes.
The pudding powder was then mixed in with the milk until dissolved.
And the Cool Whip was mixed in until everything had an even, creamy consistency.
Then the apples and Snickers were added to the creamy mixture.
At this point, Bulnick says you can also add in whatever else you might like. She suggests peanuts, chocolate chips, pretzels, or anything you can dream of!
She was sure to mix everything thoroughly, until the apple and candy bar pieces were completely coated.
When it was all mixed, Bulnick topped it with some caramel sauce.
You can serve it immediately, but Bulnick suggests letting it sit in the fridge for a bit to let the flavors mingle a little more.
And naturally, you can put your own spin on this, and turn it into your own personal creation that reflects your tastes.
Try combining multiple types of candy bars, or replacing the Cool Whip with ice cream for a colder treat.
Would you try this salad? What would you put in yours? Or would you stick to a salad made of leafy greens instead?
